Songs for a Summer Evening
28th – 29th July 2017, Mountcharles
Tucked away behind ancient garden walls on the shores of Donegal Bay, Songs for a Summer Evening, or The Mountcharles Opera Festival as it is known locally.
What started life as a one-off charity event in 2008, has grown to become an eagerly anticipated event in the south Donegal calendar.
Arriving at Salthill House, guests are treated to a glass of wine to enjoy as they meander through Elizabeth Temple’s magnificent gardens. The walls of the garden are about 200 years old and when Elizabeth first moved to Salthill, the lawns were a blank canvas. The splendour seen today is the work of thirty years – truly a labour of love.
The Garden Rooms started life as stables but were cleared ten years ago to become a space which lends itself perfectly to the resounding voices of The Bluestack Chorale.
The Bluestack Chorale is a small chamber choir which was brought together in 2011 to perform specifically at Salthill. In the intervening years they have performed in various locations around Donegal – Glebe Gallery, Churchill and St John the Baptist Church Carrigart as part of the Errigal Arts Festival and Donegal Castle to name but a few.
