Ann Jennings, NWO’s Artistic Director/Producer explains,

“The genius of this work is that Johann Strauss combines a hilarious plot based on a French farce with fabulous music that people will instantly recognise – it’s such an entertaining show. In Vienna it is traditionally performed at New Year and is a national institution – you would struggle to get a ticket. So here the chance to see this great show right on your doorstep.”

The light-hearted plot follows 24 hours in the lives of a group of Viennese bourgeoisie centred around an elaborate plan for the revenge of The Bat. Disguises, hoaxes and abundant flirtation fuelled by copious amounts of champagne culminate in comical results.

Ann Jennings also adds, “We are delighted to be working with really talented individuals both local and international. The Director Deigh Reid really understands the work and is doing a great job exploiting the comedy of the show.  The Conductor/Musical Director Anton Zapf knows the operetta inside out. His experience is second to none and he will inspire a great performance from all the soloists, orchestra and chorus.”

The composer Johann Strauss wrote some of the most well-known music in the world he ultimately became known as The Waltz King due to his immensely popular compositions ‘The Blue Danube and ‘The Emperor Waltz’ to name a couple.

Tickets for Die Fledermaus can be booked at the An Grianan Theatre box office on 074 912 0777.
